Quite literally in a class of its own, the 2023 KTM 150 XC-W is an unlikely underdog in the world of enduro. Proudly featuring KTM's proven 2-stroke engine technology, supreme agility, and surprising power delivery, it helps elevate rider and machine to incredible new heights at all levels of competence. Light enough to be hauled up the hardest of trails, yet packing enough punch to hang on to the big boys, the KTM 150 XC-W commands respect.
TOTAL TERRAIN DOMINATION: INTRODUCING THE 2023 KTM ENDURO RANGE
KTM has dominated Enduro competition for a number of decades, with the newest iteration of the 2023 KTM EXC and EXC-F models set to continue the trend. Boasting an updated design, orange-coated Chromoly steel frame, race-proven WP XPLOR suspension at each end, and real READY TO RACE credentials, the 2023 KTM Enduro range is the one to beat.
Offering the most extensive READY TO RACE competition Enduro lineup on the market, starting with the enduro underdog KTM 150 EXC 2-Stroke and topping out with the class-leading power KTM 500 EXC-F 4-Stroke, the 2023 KTM Enduro range caters to all riders and terrains.
New for 2023, an all-new graphic design and white, purple and orange color scheme come together into a seamlessly blended palette. This color scheme was specifically chosen by the designers to pay homage to the early ‘90s enduro models, setting the 2023 KTM Enduro range apart from anything else on the trails.
The looks are further emphasized with the use of a race-inspired orange-coated Chromoly steel frame. Not only does this echo the styling on full-factory race machines but provides the perfect backbone to set off the 2023 graphics pack.
In terms of engines, the 2-Stroke model range once again takes its place and is the leader in the paddock, making use of KTM's patented Transfer Port Injection (TPI) technology. Not only has this ensured fewer emissions and fuel consumption but provides smooth and strong power delivery from the bottom right through to the top end of the rev-range.
The 4-Stroke model range provides the most concise offering of models, starting with the KTM 250 EXC-F and KTM 350 EXC-F and topping out with the powerhouses KTM 450 EXC-F and KTM 500 EXC-F. All models in the 4-Stroke range benefit from class-winning engines, engineered to deliver massive torque down low with class-leading power delivery at higher RPMs.
These are flanked by the ever-popular KTM EXC SIX DAYS range, which offers a special tribute to the upcoming 2022 FIM International Six Days Enduro in France, combining the very latest in innovation with an extensive list of race-derived parts as standard.
Every motorcycle in the range gets fully adjustable WP XPLOR suspension as standard, with the advantage of a Progressive Damping System (PDS) on the rear. The PDS layout – a staple across KTM EXC and EXC-F models, offers lower maintenance due to fewer moving parts, but provides more ground clearance, with less chance of hooking up when climbing logs or rocks.

Engine & Exhaust Exhaust
When it comes to improved power delivery and performance, the new exhaust plays a key role and packs a punch that is hard to beat. The pipe is produced with the latest 3-D stamping technology and has an optimized shape. The silencer also features a reworked design that includes a new perforated inner tube and lighter wool. The new exhaust works perfectly with the new TPI engine, producing excellent enduro-specific performance with significantly better bottom end power than its carbureted predecessor. Last but not least the plastic mounting system of the muffler is replaced by 2 welded, aluminium brackets that help reduce the weight of the muffler by 60 g.
Engine
Thanks to state-of-the-art engineering, innovative 2-stroke design, and revolutionary TPI fuel injection technology, the 150 cc 2-stroke powerplant is as surprising as it is effective. Delivering class-leading power throughout the entire rev range, the benefit to this compact, lightweight 2-stroke is down to its approachable rideability, making it a great option for those looking to delve into more extreme action, without the intimidation of a bigger 2-stroke.
Cylinder
The KTM 150 EXC cylinder has a bore of 58 mm and with refined port timings and the aid of a sophisticated power valve, provides really smooth and controllable power characteristics. For the EFI application the cylinder features two lateral domes which hold the fuel injectors that supply fuel to the rear transfer ports. The downstream injection guarantees excellent atomization of the fuel with the upstreaming air. Thus, the loss of unburnt fuel is minimal, resulting in less emissions, a more efficient combustion and reduced fuel consumption. A small tube in the back of the cylinder is connected with an intake pressure sensor, which supplies pressure data to the control unit. The cylinder features a power valve unit with a sophisticated mechanism for the lateral support exhaust ports. The exhaust port layout increases engine performance, while the upper contour of the exhaust port has been machined to ensure more accurate port timing. The new cylinder, with TPI technology, produces outstanding performance over the entire range with significantly increased torque compared to its predecessor.
Crankcases and engine covers
These compact engine cases are manufactured using a high-pressure die-cast production process which helps with weight reduction but maintains strength and durability. This design also allows for optimal shaft arrangements close to the center of gravity, resulting in ideal mass centralization and ride-ability.
Transmission
The KTM 150 EXC is fitted with a robust 6-speed transmission made by PANKL RACING SYSTEMS, and make use of enduro-specific wide-ratio gears, with precise and easy shifting. An advanced ´No Dirt´ gear shift lever design prevents mud and dirt from blocking the joint. Because even dirt lovers hate mud when it's in the wrong places.
Clutch
The KTM 150 EXC is fitted with a DS (diaphragm steel) clutch. It features a one-piece clutch basket and primary gear made of high-strength billet steel. Its compact rivet-less design guarantees unbeatable reliability. The clutch is fitted with extremely heat-resistant steel carrier friction discs which ensure excellent disengagement of the clutch and are pre-tensioned by means of a diaphragm spring, substantially reducing the lever force required by the Brembo hydraulic system.
E-Starter
The standard electric starter on the KTM 150 XC-W uses a proven starter drive and a strong starter motor made by Mitsuba. As demonstrated time and time again, it provides quick and reliable starting, saving you precious time and energy when you need it most.
Engine management system
The engine management system (EMS) of all 2-stroke EXC models features a control unit located below the seat. The ECU defines the ignition timing while the amount of fuel to inject is based on several sensor readings such as intake air pressure, throttle position, water temperature , and ambient air pressure. Thanks to altitude and temperature compensation, re-jetting is a thing of the past, meaning more time twisting throttles and less time turning screws. Should the rider decide to mount a radiator fan from the KTM PowerParts, it will be controlled directly by the EMS without needing to add an additional thermal switch.
Oil pump
Pre-mixing 2-Stroke fuel is a thing of the past for KTM XC-W owners. The 2-Stroke enduro range is fitted with a frame-mounted oil tank featuring flexible mountings, which greatly improves durability and reliability. In addition, a mesh filter prevents dirt from getting into the oil pump and into the fuel. This works in conjunction with the oil pump, which delivers the lubricant directly to the throttle body, where it is mixed with the incoming air to lubricate the piston and crankshaft. Using engine speed and throttle position sensor data, the engine management's precise electronic control of the oil pump ensures that the ideal amount of oil for any given conditions is used. With an average fuel-to-oil ratio of 1:80, an oil capacity of about 0.7 liters is sufficient for roughly five tanks of fuel.
Throttle body
The KTM 150 EXC engine is fitted with a 39 mm throttle body made by Dell`Orto. These regulate the airflow via a butterfly connected with a twin-cable throttle cam, which is operated by the handlebar throttle assembly, supported by a throttle position sensor that provides airflow data to the control unit. What all this means is, riders can precisely set the idle speed via the bypass screw, as well as easier cold starts.
TPI Alternator
In order to accommodate the power requirements of the engine management system, all KTM EXC models are fitted with a powerful 196 W alternator and voltage regulator to ensure all systems are always powered up.
Cooling
Keeping the engine cool when the going gets tough comes courtesy of a pair of radiators, mounted close to the center of gravity. These make use of CFD technology (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and clever coolant circuit routing, achieving optimum engine temperature for the highest performance, in all conditions. Frame
All KTM EXC models feature high-tech, lightweight Chromoly steel frames with race-derived geometry, optimal stiffness, and unparalleled feedback for the rider. This translates into a playful handling character, with remarkable stability at speed – not to mention FACTORY RACING style thanks to the striking orange coating. The subframe is made of extra-light and ultra-stable aluminum profiles, weighing less than 900 grams providing rear fender stability and durability in the event of a loop out.
Swingarm
The KTM 150 EXC features a one-piece aluminum swingarm, which is manufactured using a gravity die-cast production process. This results in exeptional strength at the lowest possible weight and the perfect flex behavior.
Wheels
KTM uses lightweight, CNC-machined hubs and high-end GIANT rims on all EXC models. These guarantee maximum stability and the bare minimum weight, while aluminum spoke nipples feature an innovative design, which reduces the need to continuously tighten the spokes.
Tires
Race-specification, puncture-resistant MAXXIS MaxxEnduro are designed for all-day riding comfort, with extreme grip and performance across any terrain.
Suspension
For 2023, all KTM EXC models feature top-shelf WP suspension systems, focused on providing all riders of all levels with unmatched performance and consistency across all terrain types.
Front suspension
Leading the way in enduro-focused suspension, these adjustable 48 mm diameter WP XPLOR upside-down forks provide unmatched performance from both expert and amateur riders alike. Adjustability also comes easily, with compression damping dialed in on the left fork and rebound on the right.
Rear suspension
The race-proven and fully adjustable WP XPLOR shock absorber features conical bushings between the pistons that allow for reduced suspension fade and wear. And, not only is this PDS rear suspension design the of choice of champions in the quest for podiums, but it also leads the way when it comes to providing maximum traction for the rear wheel.
Triple clamp
The KTM 150 EXC is fitted with forged triple clamps with an offset of 22mm, ensuring a solid grip of the fork and precise handling. The handlebar can be adjustabed forwards and backwards over 4 positions, ensuring you find your perfect postion when tackling the gnarliest of terrain.
Brakes
When it comes to bringing this machine to a stop, you’ll be happy to have high-tech Brembo brake calipers and lightweight wave discs doing the work. These also take years of competitive racing into account, providing the perfect combination of ideal pad density and steel quality for longevity and consistent feel.
Fuel tank
All KTM enduro models are fitted with lightweight polyethylene tanks, with a ¼‐turn bayonet-style filler cap makes for quick and easy operation. The integrated fuel pump ensures a direct feed to the injectors, while a 90° connector provides protection against damage. The tank is also manufactured using see‐through plastic, so riders are able to gauge fuel levels at a glance and on the go.

Software & Electronics Battery & wiring harness
The KTM 150 XC-W is fitted with a time-proven electrical system, powered by a super lightweight 2 Ah lithium-ion starter battery. The wiring harness also has most of the electrical components carefully positioned into a common area below the seat, making them easily accessible.
