Port Fourchon officials are responding to an oil spill that happened Thursday off the coast of Louisiana.

According to Greater Lafourche Port Commission Executive Director Chett Chiasson, two barrels of oil spilled at the Fourchon Junction Station Thursday.

The reason for the spill was a flange that failed.

Chiasson said the oil stayed within its built containment on land and rock.

As of Friday morning, Chiasson said things have been cleaned up and that crews are working to have the flange changed by the end of the day.

Chiasson said no marshland or open water was impacted.

According to Chiasson, some production has resumed offshore and repairs are expected to be complete Friday.

"These sorts of events are treated with the utmost seriousness by everyone. This is why a number of deepwater platforms halted production after the leak was detected," Chiasson said in a statement issued Thursday by the Port.
