The Chevrolet Blazer is a mid-size SUV that has been produced by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand since 1969. Over the years, the Blazer has undergone many changes and redesigns, with production discontinuing in 2005 before the vehicle reemerged as a crossover SUV in 2019. The first- and second-generation Blazers, which were produced from 1969 to 1991, are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts due to their iconic design and rugged off-road capabilities.
The first-generation Blazer, introduced in 1969, was based on the Chevrolet C/K pickup truck platform. It featured a full-size body style with a removable hardtop or convertible top, making it a popular choice for outdoor adventurers. It was initially offered with a 250ci Straight-6 engine or a variety of V8 engine options, ranging from a 307ci to a 350ci engine. It was also initially offered with two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive options.
The second-generation Blazer debuted in 1973 and featured a more modern design for the times, with squared-off edges and a larger interior. The engine offerings grew to include a 400ci V8. The second-generation Blazer was also available with full-time four-wheel drive as an option, making it a more capable off-road model than its predecessor.
The early Blazers are especially popular among collectors for their vintage charm and timeless appeal. Many enthusiasts enjoy customizing and modifying these vehicles to suit their individual tastes, with modifications ranging from lifted suspensions and oversized tires to modern engine swaps and other enhancements.
Overall, Blazers are beloved by enthusiasts and collectors alike for their combination of style, performance and off-road capability. Highly popular among the vintage SUV community, the vehicle will be well-represented at Barrett-Jackson's 2023 Palm Beach Auction.
