Ford Releases Horsepower Specs For Next

When Ford unveiled the next-generation Mustang at the Detroit Auto Show in

When Ford unveiled the next-generation Mustang at the Detroit Auto Show in September, it was a bit mum on exact horsepower.

Now, we know what the numbers are.

I wrote at the time that the top-dog Dark Horse would have more than 500 horsepower, and it turns out that it will have exactly 500 to go along with 418 lb-ft of torque. The 5.0-liter V8 being used in this car will have a "uniquely balanced" crankshaft and forged piston connecting rods. The camshafts are also strengthened, in order to handle track duty.

The not-quite-as-bonkers 5.0-liter V8 in the GT trim will make 486 horsepower and the same amount of twist as the Dark Horse -- if you check the order box for the available active-valve exhaust system. If you don't check that box, the power drops to 480 ponies and 415 lb-ft of torque. The Coyote V8 in this trim has a dual intake and dual throttle body induction system.

If you're buying a GT or Dark Horse, you'll get the same amount of power whether you want to shift it for yourself or opt for the automatic transmission.

EcoBoost models will make 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque from the 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that Ford says is new from the ground up. The active-valve exhaust is optional, and this engine has a new bore/stroke ratio and uses both port fuel injection and direct injection. It also uses tech like variable cam timing, exhaust gas recirculation, and twin-scroll turbocharging.

Sales are slated to start next summer.

I wonder if they fixed the 10 speed automatic.

So ... ugly ...

Can't say too much of anything good about that front end. Why does it always have to look like some sort of angry bug?

Really hope they ditch the Getrag (sp?:)

The Ford Camaro. When a company ruins its signature product by making it look like the worst car in the segment, you know things are bad in this world.
